One Hundred Dental Visits by Yale New Haven Hospital Residents in 2016

Yale Hospital Residents and Interns come to Calcaterra Family Dentistry in Orange, CTWe are pleased to announce that we are rapidly approaching a significant milestone in our dentist office: One hundred dental visits by Medical Residents from Yale New Haven Hospital in 2016 alone! These visits by residents included everything from cleanings and fillings to wisdom teeth extractions.

We are glad we are able to provide dental care to these doctors in training. In many cases, residents did not see a dentist while in medical school due to unpredictable schedules and hospital rotations.

Why YNNH Residents Choose our Office

There are many reasons why Yale residents gravitate towards our office:

Proximity to Yale New Haven Hospital

Except in cases of significant traffic, we are a 10 minute drive from both the main Yale Hospital campus and Saint Raphael. Some residents jump on 95, others on the Post Rd, while others take Rt 34 or other routes.

“Resident Friendly” Hours

Residents, especially those in surgical subspecialties, work atypical hours. In many cases, a dental office that’s open Monday – Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 simply does not work. Because we offer early morning and select evening and weekend appointments, we’re able to accommodate the schedules of nearly all specialties, from Neurosurgery to Peds! (Note: we have resident patients in both those fields).

We Accept the Yale Hospital Dental Insurance

In network with Delta Dental for Yale Hospital Medical ResidentsAll Yale Hospital residents have some variation of Delta Dental insurance. Not only are we an in-network dental office with Delta, we are experts in it! We can make sure you maximize your benefits at our office. Just call and ask for Jenn or Aimee and we’ll help you out.

As an FYI, all Yale Hospital employees, not just residents, have Delta Dental, and we have hundreds of employees as patients. We live, eat, and breath Yale Delta Dental!

We Love to Talk Shop

In our experience, some residents like to come in and sleep while they get a cleaning. And that’s OK. Others like to talk and learn as much as possible. And we love that! Dr. Nick Calcaterra loves to talk about dentistry. If you want a refresher on all the branches of the trigeminal nerve and how it affects local anesthesia success, you’ve come to the right place!

Proud Supporters of Amity Regional High’s Production of Into the Woods

For the second year in a row, we are proud to support Amity Regional High School’s Spring drama production. This year, the Theater Department is producing Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

We are SO excited for it that we even had a graphic developed for the production using characters from Into the Woods:

Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf both had their teeth done here before their big night in Into the Woods! Dentistry by Dr. Nicholas Calcaterra.

As you can see, the Wolf had his teeth worked on by Dr. Calcaterra. Dr. Nick did several porcelain veneers and then pulled the Wolf’s wisdom teeth. We think the results speak for themselves!

All joking aside, we are proud to report that several of our patients are members of the Cast, Crew, and Orchestra. In fact, for every production for the past several years, we’ve had multiple patients involved.

Congratulations to all those involved in this exciting show. And as we said last year, break a leg not a tooth!

Murphy Molargator Teaches Orange Kids Oral Hygiene

In early March, our hygienist Crystal and Murphy Molargator traveled just down the road to the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy in Orange to visit the preschool. With so many students from the school already being patients in our dental practice, we saw many familiar faces!

Our mission was simple: to show the entire preschool the importance of oral hygiene. Murphy’s big teeth and Crystal’s infectious enthusiasm guaranteed that all the kids learned proper brushing and hygiene skills. We think the photos speak for themselves:

This preschooler had lots of fun brushing Murphy’s teeth.

Murphy has 32 teeth and can open REALLY wide.

This little one took her brushing very seriously.

We spoke to several different groups and all the kids had a great time. And Murphy left with shiny white teeth!

We are always accepting patients of all ages. Visit this page to request an appointment or call us at (203) 799 – 2929.

Use Apple Pay at our Office

We know that coming to the dentist is not everyone’s favorite activity. We also know that teeth and a great smile are a worthwhile investment, but paying for dentistry is not everyone’s favorite activity either.

That’s why we’ve made it even easier for our existing and future patients.

Use Apple Pay at our Orange, CT dentist office

We’re the first dental office in Orange to publicly announce we accept Apple Pay!

For our patients who have an iPhone 6, or who are thinking about anĀ upgrade to an iPhone 6, you can use Apple Pay at our office. While Apple Pay is still relatively new, for our patients who do utilize it, we’ve found it to be very convenient.

Why do we mention this? We do it to emphasize our commitment to adopting and using modern technology in all aspects of our dental practice. Since being one of the first offices to implement digital x-rays, to allowing our patients to receive appointment reminders via text, we are constantly evaluating ways to make your experiences as pleasant as possible.
